About the Author

Dorothy was born on January 13, 1916 on the Brumbaugh farm near Hartville, the daughter of Howard and Effie (Fall) Brumbaugh. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1933 and was a longtime resident of the Hartville and North Canton area. On August 19, 1938, she married Roy P. Wise, who died on November 24, 2004 after 66 years of marriage. She and husband, Roy, ran Wise Orchard near North Canton for over 50 years. Dorothy also worked in the North Canton School District cafeteria for many years. She was baptized at and was a member of the Hartville Church of the Brethren for most of her life. She was a member of AARP and Hartville Senior Citizens, retired member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and former member of the Akron Yacht Club.

Introduction

In the 1990's, Dorothy Brumbaugh Wise wrote out by hand her recollections of her childhood. These handwritten pages were transcribed by her son, James D. Wise, and edited in 2010 by her grandson, Travis A. Wise. Three versions are available:
