[E1] Johannes Henarich Brumbach and family arrived at Philadelphia on the ship Neptune, Captain Waire, Sep 30, 1754, sailing from Rotterdam and stopping at Cowes, England, fpr provisions as was the general custon during those long voyages, filled with innumerable hardships. A brief quotation bearing upon these hardships is instructive:

"The journey for those who came from Southern Germany in 1754 lasted fully half a year amid such hardships as no one is able to describe adequarely with their misery. The passage from Holladn to Coves, England, alone, often required from two to four weeks."

Johannes Henrich did not stay long in Pennsylvania before settling in Conecocheague district, north of Hagerstown, Frederick Co., now Washington, MD, or in Franklin Co., PA, immediately adjourning to the north. It does not seem probable that he could have been the "John" enumerated in Fairfax Co., VA., in 1785.

There were four children, three born in Germany.

[E2] Jacob (Jockel) b. Nov 27, 1734; married about 1760 and settled on a tract of land near Funkstown - Hagerstown, MD, near [C1] Johann Jacob Brumbach. He was a cousin to [E1] Johannes Henrich Brumbach.

About 1787, [E2] Jacob and his brother [E5] Georg (Yerrick or Yorrick) moved with the earliest pioneers to Morrison's Cove, then in Bedford Co., PA., now Blair Co., and located near the Rebecca Furnace property, occupying a large tract of land. The predatory Indian outbreaks of 1778 and 1779 caused all the early settlers to leave that locality and these brothers returned to their former homes on the Conecocheague River in Maryland - perhaps also Antrim Twp., Franklin Co.,. PA. After the cessation of the Indian depredations these brothers re-occupied their Bedord Co. lands.

The four brothers were:

[E2] Jacob, b nov 276, 1734; d. Aug 13, 1816

[E3] Conrad, b. 1735; d. 1791

[E4] Johannes (the stocking weaver)

[E5] George (Yerrick or Yorrick)
