4th Great Grandfather
Abe was 26 when he left for the Revolutionary War with the Maryland militia. At its end he was 34 years old. Catherine Clapper had waited for him throughout the war. On his return they married immediately. Before the war he inherited from his father, Christian, the farm at Stony Ridge, MD.
There is not a record of the full number of engagements in which he participated, but it is known that he served with his company and regiment in the following battles: Stony Point, Brandywine, Germantown, Trenton, Monmouth, at the siege of Yorktown, and was with Washington's army at Valley Forge. He fought with credit to the close of the war, and then was honorably discharged.
